An easy Mexican green sauce made with tomatoes, avocado, jalapeno garlic and sour cream. This sauce can be used as a dip for tortilla chips for a great appetizer.

Ingredients

  • 3 medium green or yellow tomatoes, roughly chopped (do not use red tomatoes)
  • 4 tomatillos, cleaned and chopped
  • 1 to 2 jalapeno chilies (adjust to taste), stemmed and roughly chopped
  • 2 to 3 garlic cloves
  • 3 medium ripe avocados, peeled, pitted and sliced
  • 4 sprig cilantro (coriander)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 1/2 cup sour cream

Method

In a saucepan over medium heat add the tomatoes, tomatillos, jalapeno chilies and garlic. Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer for 10 to 15 minutes.

Remove from the heat and set aside to cool.

Place the tomato mixture in a blender or food processor. Add the avocados, cilantro and salt and process until smooth. Empty the mixture into a bowl, add the sour cream and stir until well combined.

This recipe will make 4 to 5 cups of green sauce.
