Creamy ham and cheese pasta recipe

A simple, easy to make pasta in a creamy cheese and ham sauce, ready in 15 minutes.
Preparation time: 5 minutes, Cooking time: 10 minutes, Serves: 4 - 6 

Ingredients

17 oz. (500 g) farfalle (bow-tie) or similar pasta
1/2 medium onion, chopped
2 garlic cloves, finely chopped
1 1/2 cups ham, chopped
4 Tbsp unsalted butter
4 Tbsp flour
1 1/2 cups whole milk
Salt and black pepper to taste

Freshly grated Parmesan cheese

Directions

In a pot of boiling salted water add the pasta and cook until al dente. (check directions on the packaging)

While the pasta is cooking melt the butter in a frying pan over medium high heat. Add the onion, garlic and ham and saute for 5 to 6 minutes, or until the onion is soft. Add the flour, a tablespoon at a time and stir constantly. Add the milk, 1/2 a cup at a time and continue stirring; use a whisk to make sure that the sauce is smooth and uniform. Add the Parmesan cheese and continue stirring until the cheese is melted. Season with salt to taste. lower heat to minimum and simmer until the pasta is cooked.

When the pasta is ready, drain and empty into the sauce. Stir well to coat evenly and serve immediately with extra grated Parmesan cheese on top.
