A recipe for Pico de Gallo, a salsa based on fresh tomatoes, onions and Serrano chile. Pico de Gallo is a typical condiment served with typical Mexican dishes such as enchiladas, chimichangas, burritos and fajitas.

Ingredients

2 medium finely chopped tomatoes
2 Tbsp finely chopped onion
2 Tbsp fresh cilantro (coriander), roughly chopped
1 fresh serrano chile, seeded and finely chopped
1/2 tsp salt
A pinch of granulated sugar

Directions

In bowl combine all ingredients. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 3-4 hours.

Notes and tips

You can adjust the heat of the salsa by adjusting the amount of serrano chile used.
